Moses Mountain

Climbing Moses Mountain in Sequoia

Hidden Falls Campground, where the trailhead normally starts, was closed, so we parked at the locked gate 2.6 miles away - made for a longer day but everything happens for a reason - while walking on the road to the campground we saw a bear just down the hill - only got a glimpse on film - it was pretty exciting for us - the Tule River trail is great with beautiful and dizzingly high Sequoias and redwoods - at 2.4 miles from the trailhead at Hidden Falls we crossed the Tule River and immediately headed cross-country SW up through the forest - once on the granite we went straight up and then began traversing south until we saw another notch that seemed to yield to the summit ridge - it did - never more than a short class IV move - mostly really fun Class II and III - summit ridge was surprisingly flat.
