Chumash Island High Point

Hiking to Chumash Island high point in Pyramid Lake

A great hike that combines the fun of a 15-minute boat ride out to an island, and then an easy hike to the high point with spectacular views. You can rent a boat at Pyramid Lake Store as early as 7am along with a throng of fishermen, but instead of slaying the trout, bag a peak and a Benchmark!  Head out to the island and anchor on the eastern side at the low point of the saddle.  Head up to the high point, where we enjoyed the views and saw deer running along the beach of the island.  Then we headed to the northern side of the mountain to tag the Borrow Benchmark, before heading home.  There is no formal trail on the island but the use trails are obvious with very little bushwhacking.
