Fremont Peak

Fremont Peak in the Mojave Desert

A short 1.8 mile Round Trip hike in the Mojave Desert - climbs a steep 800 vertical feet to the summit. Starts at the historic Monarch-Rand mine and winds along a trail/OHV road to the south and east of the summit. Then up the southern slope cross country to the summit granite that is awfully fun to climb (or there is an easy Class II ramp instead). Just spectacular views with the wind moving the sky.
  • Trailhead:

At the Monarch-Rand mine site. 7.7 miles from the junction of Hwy 395 and Fremont Peak Road. Great description in Michel Digonnet's book "Mojave Desert Peaks."

  • Difficulty:

For a short climb, it's steep and fun.

  • Aesthetic Rating:

Go on a windy, partly cloudy day and you will treated to moving skies as the shadows of the clouds glide across the desert landscape.

  • Distance:

800 vertical feet in less than 2 miles.

  • Type:

    Dayhike
