Mayan Peak

Mayan Peak

Beautiful high desert peak in the Southern Sierra/NW Mojave.  Be prepared for a 3-mile hike that climbs about 1,700 ft. It is all cross-country but navigation is not problematic as you can see the "route" the whole way.  It's a bit of a sand slog up so I would recommend starting early.  The sand makes for fun "boot-skiing" on the way down.
  • Trailhead:

Parked at the junction of Kelso Valley Road and Butterbredt Canyon Road (35.461340, -118.211492). Started the hike up from there.

  • Difficulty:

    Moderate but straightforward.

  • Aesthetic Rating:

    Beautiful views

  • Distance:

2.5 mile round trip and 1,500 ft elevation gain

  • Type:

    Dayhike
