Mt. Baldwin

Climbing Mt. Baldwin out of Convict Canyon

Dayhike to the summit of Mt. Baldwin- started pre-dawn at the Convict Lake trailhead - went "up" from the end of Convict Canyon and then went "down" past Bright Dot Lake and its drainage.  9miles and 6 hours up, 7.5miles and 4 hours down. Spectacular geology in this part of the Sierras.  Try not to be mesmerized by the canyon walls...
  • Trailhead:

Park in the hiker's parking area just before the Convict Lake Resort. Hike starts at 37.600143, -118.853867

  • Difficulty:

Moderate for an SPS peak - we spiced it up with some Class III climbing below the summit, but this avoidable.

  • Aesthetic Rating:

Love Convict Canyon - the geology is so unique here compared to everywhere else in the Sierras

  • Distance:

16.5 miles round trip with 4,750 ft. of elevation gain

  • Type:

    Dayhike
