Mt. Deception

Climbing Mt. Deception, San Gabriel Peak & Mt. Disappointment

From the trail junction between Mt. Disappointment and San Gabriel Peak (5800'-), walk northwest down the paved road less then 1/2 mile to saddle 5550'.  Then leave the paved road and hike west up a steep firebreak and ridge to the summit.
  • Trailhead:

    Eaton Saddle on Mt. Wilson Road- this is the best trailhead to use if combining the hike with Mt. Disappointment & San Gabriel Peak

  • Difficulty:

    Easy except for the moderately steep last 1/4 mile ridge climb to the summit

  • Aesthetic Rating:

    Beautiful views of the San Gabriels

  • Distance:

    About 5 miles round trip if done alone from Eton Saddle. Additional 1.5 mile of hiking if including San Gabriel Peak and Mt. Disappoinment.
