Mt. Disappointment

Climbing Mt. Disappointment, San Gabriel Peak & Mt. Deception

A great way to quickly hike 3 HPS peaks.  Start at the Eaton Saddle, get San Gabriel for sunrise, followed by Mt. Disappointment and then Mt. Deception.  Less than 4 miles round trip if done alone from Eton Saddle.  About 5 miles round trip if combined with both San Gabriel Peak and Mt. Deception.  If you want to loose more elevation than you gain, do a car shuttle and start at Eaton Saddle and finish further down the Mt. Wilson Rood at the trailhead for Mt. Deception (0.4 miles from the Red Box Ranger Station).
  • Trailhead:

Eaton Saddle on Mt. Wilson Road- this is the best trailhead to use if combining the hike with Mt. Deception & San Gabriel Peak

  • Difficulty:

    Easy

  • Aesthetic Rating:

Nice views of the San Gabriels but the summit is full of radio towers.

  • Distance:

From the trail junction between Mount Disappointment and San Gabriel Peak (5800'-), walk northwest down the paved road less then 1/2 mile to saddle 5550'. Leave the road and hike west up a steep firebreak and ridge to the summit.

  • Type:

    Dayhike
