Mt. LeConte

Mt. LeConte via Meysan Lake

Camped at Meysan Lake and then the next day climbed LeConte via the NW chute (which has the "waterfall pitch", a Class IV 15 foot section that is the crux).  We brought equipment to rappel back down this pitch on the descent.
  • Trailhead:

    Whiteny Portal campground - you can park on the road and then make your way to the south/east corner of the campground- pick up a trail that leads you through some private cabins before picking up the trail proper.

  • Difficulty:

    Should be comfortable with Class III/IV exposure.

  • Aesthetic Rating:

    Great views of the whole Whitney region and the extent of the Comb Ridge (including Corcoran)

  • Distance:

    Less than 20 miles round trip.

  • Type:

    Overnight
