Potato Mountain

Potato Mountain in Angeles National Forest

Hike on the front range of Angeles National Forest with sweeping city and mountain views. The hike follows a dirt road in a shaded oak forest. After about 1 mile the road has no shade so it would be an unrelentingly hot hike in the summer.  In the winter it’s perfect.  For the final approach to the summit, you have the choice of following the road to the top or moving onto the ridge proper and following a steep, but easy to navigate single track.  The most important thing is to not forget a decorated potato to leave at the summit!!!
  • Trailhead:

The trailhead for Potato Mountain is unmarked along the side of Mt Baldy Road. It’s about 0.7 miles after you pass the last housing development on Mt Baldy Road. After the housing development, about 0.5 miles up the road, you’ll pass a huge dirt area on your right. Shortly after that (0.2 miles) you’ll see another area with parking on either side of the road, which is the trailhead. There are usually cars parked there.
