Terese Benchmark

Terese Benchmark and Petyroglyphs in the El Paso Mountains

Discovering petrogylphs at the site of an ancient Coso Native American village in the El Paso Mountains. The petroglyphs are at the base of the Terese Benchmark, but I will leave the exact location a mystery for you to discover yourself. We then camped a distance away on the North-eastern side of the Benchmark bluff at Lat/Long (35.493025, -117.759242) - we used this as our trailhead to begin the 2.5 mile round trip hike to the Benchmark with 500 ft. of elevation gain.
  • Trailhead:

    High clearance 4WD to get our trailhead/campsite. (35.493025, -117.759242)

  • Difficulty:

From the trailhead its a steady cross country hike 500 ft. up to the summit plateau - then head across the plateau to the extreme western edge where the high point and benchmark are located.

  • Aesthetic Rating:

If isolation and desert vistas are your thing, this will be a spectacular hike for you.

  • Distance:
