Hike to Utopia Lookout, Horse Benchmark and Peak 1896

Fun hikes around Placerita Canyon. Horse Benchmark in Golden Valley Ranch Open Space, Utopia Lookout off Sand Canyon at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains and Peak 1896 behind the Visitor Center at Placerita Canyon State Park. Utopia Lookout is a cross-country endeavor- short and steep with a nice perch.

Trailhead:

Park at 34.379070, -118.402549 on Sand Canyon Rd. just south of the San Gabriel Mountain sign. Use 25548 Sand Canyon Rd. for directions.
Difficulty:

Moderate with no trail - but fun and short
