Whale Peak in Carmel

If you have the energy for this EXTREME hike up Whale Peak in Garrapata State Park, it's worth the views- a series of nice steps lead you on a .25 mile "hike" up to a nice vantage point on the ocean-side of HWY 1. Just south of Carmel - I went at dawn but would recommend sunset.  You have views overlooking Soberanes Point, which you can combine for a longer loop hike.

    7.3 miles south of the junction of HWY 1 and Carmel Valley road, park in a turn-out at 36.452039, -121.925681.
